Meet Colin - Director of Operations and 1st class Volunteer

Updated: Jun 29, 2024

On Brooklands we are extremely lucky to have the services of Colin. Many will have seen him about wearing his blue RMC hi-vis, but you should know that the work he does for us on the development is unpaid.

Brooklands director and top volunteer

Colin has lived at Brooklands for more than seven years. He has organised and prepared grit-bins and repaired the self-close gate at the playground entrance so that dogs running free can no longer foul the children’s play area. However, these examples are only the tip of the iceberg.

Whenever our RMG managing agent books work to be done at Brooklands, it is Colin who meets the contractor on site to make sure the repairs run smoothly. Colin helps solves bin store code issues and arranges special refuse collections for large items dumped incorrectly by other residents (and sometimes non-residents). He tirelessly battles to keep communal bin store areas clean to stop a vermin infestation on Brooklands, and he sorts numerous issues with the apartment blocks in Adlington Mews and Pinter Lane.

He negotiated with the local authority to have our two public litter bins on the half-moon green seating area emptied weekly and he organised the supply and installation of a street sign on the junction of Brewster Road and Pinter Lane – to the delight of all delivery drivers!

Colin was also instrumental in the strategic placing of boulders that were necessary to prevent thoughtless drivers from parking on grassed areas and collapsing our drains. At the same time, he advanced the need for CCTV overlooking the Pinter green playground area, raising security for our children and lowering the incidence of vandalism in that area.

Our residential directors are pro-active in the decisions made at Brooklands. At the moment Colin is working with our area MP to have Lincolnshire County Council [LCC] paint double yellow lines on Pilgrims Approach, so we can sleep easier knowing the emergency services can reach us without delay and also, reclaim the footpaths at the entrance to our development for pedestrians. To succeed, he will need support of all Brookland residents affected by the congestion on that vital short stretch of principal access into Brooklands – an online LCC petition is under consideration, so watch this space.

Brooklands director and top volunteer

You may have noticed how clean and tidy our development streets and open spaces are compared to those outside of Brooklands. This is not simply due to the work of the ground care gardening services you pay for. It is because Colin, often supported by his lovely wife, are out there picking up litter on a regular basis. He trims vegetation when it starts to cover our street signs and weeds alongside fence lines in areas that do not fall under the care of our paid ground care team.

Colin epitomises good community spirit - he simply wants to make Brooklands a better place to live. Each year, his voluntary work saves hundreds of pounds that our Service Charge fees would otherwise have to cover.

He deserves acknowledgement and heartfelt gratitude from every resident on Brooklands.

Thank you, Colin!

Everyone has a part to play in keeping our public areas looking their best. It can be as simple as picking up that plastic bottle or wrapper when out walking the dog, or regularly cleaning up the area in front of your house or parking space.

If you would like to volunteer some free time or need help to organise a tidy of your off-street parking area with your neighbours, please get in touch.
